I could hear the clock in the coffee shoppe ticking, that's how empty it was. The rain poured outside and I sipped my coffee gently, knowing if I sipped too hard it'd burn my throat. I was waiting for Carnell to appear so we could sip our coffee gently together... but he had yet to show up. I looked at my cell phone and 8:23 p.m. blinked on the screen. He was supposed to arrive at 7:30. I grabbed my purse and umbrella and got ready to leave. That is, until Carnell walked in dripping wet.
"Hey Nina, I'm so sorry I'm late baby."
He shook his jacket and wet the floor with warm raindrops. We then took a seat in a window bar.
"It's ok. I only waited for an hour." I said with much sarcasm in my voice.
"Don't be that way Nina, look I said I was sorry."
The waiter came over and asked Carnell for his coffee of choice.
"Uh, deep black please, with a shot of espresso."
I smiled.
"Daredevil are we?"
"Well you know... I try."
He leaned over and grabbed my hands.
"I missed you since you left hon. You had me thinking about what you did with your tongue all day."
He grinned deviously and I laughed and hit him in the arm.
"Hush Carnell, you're making me blush."
My smiled sooned turned into a frown.
"Did Yasmin say anything?"
The air soon got awkward and he let go of my hands, obviously uncomfortable.
".. Na. She didn't."
My cheeks burned hot and the familiar feeling of uneasyness rushed into me again. I was guilty of loving Carnell too much and I wanted to be his and his only.
"Carnell, we can't keep doing this."
"Here we go again." he said leaning back and sighing one of those sighs.
"I'm serious!"
It was quiet. I was angry. He was blank.
"But I love you Nina."
I stared Carnell into his deep brown eyes. God, did I love him too... but sneaking around was getting old really quick.
".. I love you too."

I leaned in and kissed his lips. He gently rubbed my cheek with his hands and I did the same to his neck. This was a usual thing. Us talking about our problem and then somehow "solving" it by falling deeper into a state of bliss and confusion. It would never end, ever.

"Baby, I don't want to make love tonight." I said, pushing her away from me. We were laying in the bed and Yasmin was being all lovey dovey. I just was not in the mood.
"C'mon baby, please? I've been thinking about it all day.."
She kissed me on my neck and I moved away.
"Yasmin! .. I said no."
Tension filled the room.
"Damn Carnell okay."
She sat back against the headboard and turned on the tv. I felt really guilty about yelling at my wife but my mind was elsewhere. It was on Nina.
"I.. I'm sorry Yasmin."
"Yeah, say sorry to my hormones."
She shut off the light and got underneath the covers. I just sat there like a fool, staring at the dark.
"I'm going out.."
I said before rising out of the bed and slipping on a shirt.
"Carnell it's three in the morning!"
"Yeah, well I need some air."
"What the hell Carnell?!"
She stood up and got into my face. I could see her outline, even though it was dark, and her breath on my skin.
"Sit your ass down Yasmin! Aint shit your business!"
It was silent.
".. Do your thing. Get some air then."
And that's when I grabbed my jacket and headed for Nina's house.

My eyes shot open from the slight banging I could hear on my front door. I got tense, and grabbed the bat from under my bed. I rubbed my eyes and tip toed to the door. Whoever it was, they were persistant in getting themselves in my house. I grabbed the doornob and got my bat in the air, ready to hit whoever the hell it was.
"Nina!"
I flicked on the light.
"What the fuck Carnell?! Got me scared as hell!"
He was breathing hard, probably scared as hell too.
"I'm sorry girl.. I just needed to come and see you."
My eyes skimmed over to the clock.
"At 3:24 in the morning?"
He laughed and shut my front door.
"Of course baby.."
He took off his jacket and I sat the baseball bat beside the coat rack.
"You were about to whoop my ass with that peice of metal huh?"
"Damn right."
We laughed and I went back upstairs to my room. Carnell followed.
"So tell me again why you're here?" I said, walking into the bathroom to wash the sleep from my tired eyes.
"Just wanted to see my boo."
Inside my mind I secretly rolled my eyes. I wished Carnell would just tell Yasmin already so we could go on with our lives. Of course, that was selfish.. but I couldn't help it. Carnell was mine.
He slid his arms around my waist and started kissing my neck. Here we go, I thought. This would be a long night.
"You want to taste?" he said sliding up his shirt so I could see his abs. Hell yeah I wanted a taste... wasn't going to let him know that, though.
"Nah, I'll pass."
I turned around and continued to clean my skin.
"C'mon. You know you want to."
I smiled deviously and touched his stomach.
"Let's go in here..."
He picked me up from the floor and carried me to my bed. He then layed me down and worked his so called "magic". Licking and flicking at my neck and so forth. I'll admit, Carnell was turning me on.
Teach me how to love, show me the way to surrender my heart, girl I'm so lost

Yeah, that was his phone. His damn motherfucking phone.

"Hello?"
I could hear a womans voice on the other end.
"Nah.. Yasmin.. Calm down! What? Now? Fine!"
He clicked the end button.

"Baby, I gotta go."
My eyes were sincere, and they said please stay.
"Why?"
"She's tripping... again."
He picked up his tennis shoes and headed downstairs. I followed after him, pleading him to just stay five more mintues.
"Nina please."
I stopped mid stair and watched him rush to get his things.
"You know what Carnell..." I said. He looked up at me, his chest rising and falling.
"When you leave... Don't come back."

Oh lord, what was I doing?

"What? Nina you're not serious."
"Yes Carnell, if you love me you'd tell Yasmin, but you haven't. I can't sneak around anymore Carnell! I'm through. So when you leave out that door, do not come back."
His eyes were pleading, begging me to take it back. But I didn't... I just went to my room and shut the door.
