The only sounds that could be heard in Free’s room was the sound of her typing away on her computer. She still couldn’t believe she found the nerve to send Kelly a message. He hadn’t messaged her back before she went to bed. Her anxiety over his answer kept her from sleeping peacefully. She needed an answer; she needed to know how to address him when she saw him today. The anticipation of a possible date with him was killing her.
After logging in and seeing she had one new personal message she inhaled deeply & let it go. She clicked on the message and was overwhelmed by conflicting feelings once she read it.

She was excited he wanted to get to know her better, but there seemed none on his end. She ran her fingers through her hair and decided to looks at things another way. Those words were probably the most anyone’s gotten outta him since elementary, even if they weren’t spoken. That was good, right?

“You look great,” said Reauna. Freedom looked at her outfit, “Thanks. I’ve been feeling like shit ever since... well you know. But I finally feel excited.” “you don’t need a guy to make you feel excited,” Reauna said. “I know, but I feel like something been awaken after sleeping for so long. And just like clockwork Kelly Tru appeared walking down the hallway. Even through his Yves Saint Laurent sunglasses were a dark tint, she knew he was looking at her.
She felt butterflies emerge in her diaphragm & started to flutter around. Her adrenaline started pumping & so did her heart. She was loving being excited about something & smiled at him while she did a little wave with her fingers. He just turned his head to the space in front of him like he didn’t know or see her.
Free’s stomach dropped. ”Did I just get played?” “No, he probably didn’t see you.” “He was looking straight at me.” “Well maybe he wasn’t really looking.” Freedom scratched her head & sighed. She was confused whether or not was into her. But if he wanted to date her he had to get his signals straight.

“Maybe it’s a poser,” Free said. Kelsey answered, “Possibly, but why would he diss you if he asked you out?” “Exactly,” Freedom sighed. As much as she wanted to turn around and look at Kelly she didn’t, instead she just looked down at her Physics worksheet.
“Freedom, if the of light in diamond is 1.24 X 108 miles per second, what is the index of refraction of diamond?” asker her Honors Physic’s teacher, Mr. Slate. She found the problem on her worksheet and went to work, in less than a minute she opened her mouth with the answer but was cut off by a knock at the door. “Hold that answer,” commanded Mr. Slate as he went to open the door. In walked a delivery man with a long white box. “Is Freedom Peterson here?” he asked. “Me?!” Kelsey hit her arm, “Go get whatever it is. I wanna know what’s in it.” Kelsey pushed her out of her seat & Freedom had to hold onto her desk to catch her balance. She quickly walked over, curiosity getting the best of her. The delivery man gently placed the long box in her hand. She opened it and her mouth dropped. Inside were 10 cotton candy amaryllis. “They’re beautiful,” cooed one of her classmates while the others erupted into whispers. “Sign here,” the delivery man said. She juggled the flowers in right hand and signed with her left. “Thank you,” he said walking away. “No thank you,” she muttered.
She just smiled at her flowers, admiring their beauty. “Who are they from?” yelled a classmate. She looked for a card, nothing. “There’s no card,” she said looking up. “Someone’s got a secret admirer,” Mr. Slate said. It was at that moment she saw Kelly Tru looking her. He gave a slow nod and what she guessed was a small smile. From that little notion she knew the flowers were from him. She was a hundred percent sure. Those butterflies reappeared in her stomach again. He really was feeling her. She felt like she was given a million dollars after only asking for ten; that incredible.
“Why those flowers and not roses?” someone asked breaking her away from her thoughts. “They’re my favorite. But who knows that?” she said thinking out loud. “I knew that,” Bryan mumbled. “What are you trying to say Bryan? Did you send them?” Kelsey said getting in his face. “No,” he said looking down at his desk. Kelsey just winked at her. Freedom just shook her head before asking, “Mr. S, can I put these in the nurse’s frig?” “Sure, I’m sure you don’t need a pass.” She started to walk out the door, but turned around and said, “Oh yeah, the index of refraction is. 2.42.”
